Gollan Comedy ~ Featuring Em O'Loughlin!
Time & Location
About the Event
Comedy is back at the Gollan Hotel on Friday 26th July, this time featuring multi-award winning comedian Em O'Loughlin!
With performances throughout the US, the UK and everywhere from Central Australia to Kangaroo Island.... we are super excited to have Em at the good ol' Gollan Hotel in Lismore!
So who is Em O'Loughlin?
In 2001, Em was the first ever woman to win the National Raw Comedy Competition & in 2002 came 2nd in the National Greenfaces comedy competition. She has worked as a support act for 'Puppetry of the Penis' 2001 & 2003 & on Adelaide's MMM Radio Breakfast crew, also taking on the blousy role of Caprice Cerise in the Aussie feature movie 'The Honourable Wally Norman' directed by Ted Emery of Kath and Kim fame. She showed up next in 'MacLeod's Daughters' where she played Constance, a lovely rural woman with a penchant for a tipple and a bawdy eye!
In 2013 Em took up theatre and won a Lyrebird Award for her performance, and has since performed around the world from Europe to New York and Hollywood.
Em has performed in "Life After Dick" (as an ex-Puppetry of the Penis supporter) for the 2006 Melbourne Int. Comedy Festival, and then toured W.A. and regional Victoria. Emily launched her first solo show "LifeSpam" as part of the 2007 Melbourne Fringe. "Brilliant storytelling" was one critics take on this show. Next saw her in "The Middle Ages" as part of the 2009 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the following year she trotted out her sell out show "How I Made My Arse Look Smaller Simply by Pulling My Head Out of It". After Melbourne Comedy Festival and Perth's Wild West Comedy Festival 2011 Em spent a big chunk of the year on tour to the US with her new show "Em O'Loughlin was a Big Fatty Boombah" in both Hollywood and New York.
She has worked with HG Nelson, Shaun Micallef and Kevin Harrington and ............ surely that is enough reasons to come and catch Em for just $10 at the Gollan Hotel!!
Supporting Em is Lennox Head's rapidly rising comedian John Peacock, who recently performed at the Big Gig in Ballina (and is one half of the Proud & Sassy along with Vanessa Larry Mitchell), along with Paul Mamone who despite being new to the comedy scene, is killing it on the local stages!
And to pull the night together as MC is local pocket rocket, Michael Hastie! A finalist in the about to happen Byron Bay 'Sticky Wicket' Comedy Competition, radio presenter for River FM (Sunday arvo - tune in!) and regular Larry Laughs Loud performer.
See you all at the Gollan!

A NEW comedy production is set to have Northern Rivers audiences laughing in the aisles. Larry Laughs Loud is the latest production from local comedian, Vanessa Larry Mitchell, who will be touring her show througout the area and beyond. Mitchell's comedy career was launched after she attended Mandy Nolan's comedy writing workshop in 2015. "I had no idea where the journey would take me" Mitchell said. Having attended the course for 'a bit of fun', Mitchell descovered that she enjoyed telling stories and potentially risky jokes to rooms full of people. After performing regularly in open mic nights in Byron Bay, Mullumbimby and the Gold Coast, Mitchell found it difficult to balance the travel outside the local area with her full-time day job and being a mum, so she decided to set up an open mic room at he Rous hotel in Lismore. An instant success, Larry Laughs Loud is now a regular monthly gig at the hotel and the Lismore Workers Club, the Deck and Lounge at SCU, Yamba Recreation and Bowling Club, and performances are planned for Alstonville, Nimbin and Evans Head. Mandy Nolan, a veteran to the Australian comedy scene, describes Mitchell as 'A refreshingly natural voice; sassy and confident'. Mitchell said Larry Laughs Loud is about giving new and emerging comics a space to develop their skills on stage in a safe and supportive environment, as well as bringing experienced talent to the region. 'We are generating loads of interest and support from people wanting to have a go on the stage a well as our rapidly growing audiences' she said, "I am particularly passionate about increasing female representation in comedy and supporting women to build confidence, to embrace their own style of humour, in a heavy male dominated industry".
